About FGD
FGD Designers, short for Free Goodies for Designers, is an independent type foundry founded in Stockholm, Sweden, and run by designer Marcelo Reis Melo. Since 2014 it has shared original fonts, mockups, icons and image assets with designers all over the world.
The story
FGD started in 2014 as a blog where I gave away fonts and design assets I made in my free time. The idea was simple: help designers make cool things, and use those freebies as a way to think about what a typeface could be and how a small foundry could support the people who use it.
Over the years the blog grew into a proper foundry with 24 original typefaces, from bold display and brush fonts to handwritten and geometric families, plus free PSD mockups, vector icons and image assets. The project is still run by me, mostly in my free time. Lately I have been able to put more order into it and release more often.
How it works
FGD lives on your support. The free fonts are free for personal use, and for commercial work you pay what you want, any amount. The paid fonts are priced to stay affordable next to most foundries, usually a few dollars, and you pay once for a full commercial licence: logos, branding, posters, packaging, apps, games, print and video, in any country. The only thing you cannot do is resell or redistribute the font files themselves. Read the licence.
Checkout runs through Sellfy and the files download right away in OTF, TTF and webfont formats. Every font page has a live type tester so you can try your own words before you decide.
Where the fonts have been
Over the years FGD fonts have been featured on design blogs and magazines around the world, which makes me extremely proud. Creative Bloq picked Reis and Bellaboo as Font of the day, and Bellaboo Pro was carried by MyFonts.
The fonts have also found their way onto screens: the opening credits of the Netflix film Tall Girl, the AOL series Connected with Susan Sarandon, and the game Don't Look Up. I have seen them on Japanese book covers and in children's books, and almost every time I travel I run into one of them on a sign or a package. Seeing what the community makes with them is the best part of the work.
Stay in the loop
Everyone who gets a font joins the FGD mailing list and hears first when a new typeface or asset comes out. I do not launch as often as I would like, but everything here is honest work on something I love. Thank you for the support over all these years.
